Toyota scores top in 2016 Rust de Winter

The 2016 Rust de Winter 4×4 Jamboree held this past weekend (end April) was the 25th to be sponsored by Toyota SA as “a highlight of the 4×4 calendar”.

The jamboree – a name that became popular in 1920 for a World Scout gathering in England – is annually hosted by the 4×4 ATV Club of South Africa to test the the nerve of the driver and the capability of his machine.

Day 1 is always a complex gymkhana involving as many as 10 obstacles to show off the various aspects of the entries’ vehicles.

ANYBODY CAN ENTER…

Kerry Roodt, Toyota SA’s marketing communications manager, told The Corner in a media release: “Our commitment to the Rust de Winter Jamboree shows our appreciation and support for the 4×4 community in South Africa and our desire to showcase our products.”

All vehicle brands take part, however, can take part.

All competitors made their way through mud, ruts, water and rocks with wheel articulation and travel, wading depth and all-out traction earning bragging rights.

The Toyota flag flew high as Jacobus and Annemarie Swarts (Toyota FJ Cruiser) were overall winners (685 points). Other Toyota entries included Land Cruiser 70 and 80 series, FJ Cruisers and the venerable Hilux in all generations with the Toyota brand accounting for 48% of all entries and making six of the top 10.

Toyota SA Motors asked The Corner to thank the 4×4 ATV Club for hosting another successful Jamboree and look forward to 2017. So we have…
