- First special with 1.5-litre 98kW engine
- On show at 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed
LONDON, England – A special Icon edition of the new (2016) Mazda MX-5 will have its public debut at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed and be in showrooms there from August 1.
Whether it will reach South Africa remains to be seen as only 600 units will leave the production line. It’s based on the SE-L Nav model and is the first special edition of this the fourth-generation MX-5 to have the 1.5-litre, 98kW, SkyActiv-G engine.
It will cost the equivalent of about R450 000 in the UK and have contrasting design cues and enhanced standard equipment.
“Visually,” Mazda says, “the Icon makes a bold statement with its Soul Red Metallic external mirrors, rear spoiler, sidestripe decals (not pictured) and front skirt. It also has 16″ grey alloy wheel rims, black leather uphostery, rear parking sensors and auto operation for the headlights and screen wipers.”
