JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Ferrari dealer Scuderia South Africa, the country’s official Ferrari outlet, took a California T out of the box and sent it out among the wildebeest and springbok.
Why? “To pay tribute to the majestic realm of the African savannah,” the company told The Corner.
And to make a car video, in co-operation with Ferrari Middle East & Africa (and, it seems, Bill Harrop’s hot-air balloon operation), that is way different to the usual scenes shot in places such as money-soaked Monaco or the coast roads of the French Riviera.
Authentic Ferrari, authentic African back road, and the beauty of the virgin African bush. We love it!
The video was shot in the heart of the Pilanesberg, in a game park not far from the famous Sun City leisure resort north-west of the nation’s financial capital, Johannesburg. Ferrari’s Prancing Horse must have felt right at home…
The Italian Stallion folk became quite lyrical about the scenery: “The Ferrari California T awakens with the birds and blends perfectly into nature. The unique experience offered in the lush green African landscape is enhanced with the thrill of the sportiness and versatility of the California T.
“There’s something about the land: it carries its own mystical beauty. Ferrari, like Africa, is rich in culture and tradition and could not have had a better setting to represent such distinct characteristics.
“The twisting unpaved roads of the African landscape were skilfully navigated, the beauty of the unforgiving wild tamed as the California T demonstrated its racing heritage.
“It was an African dream – so watch the beauty unfold.”
We guess the California didn’t have its tyres chewed by a lion… now THAT would have been really cool!
