SEOUL, South Korea – Kia has announced details of a range of upgrades to its big Carens MPV, arriving in some markets before the end of 2016.
“The enhancements,” the automaker says, “have refreshed the appearance and functionality of the Carens, bringing it up to date with Kia’s latest model designs, improving cabin ambience and updating safety and connectivity features.”
Kias says sales of the Carens have grown steadily since the latest model was introduced in 2013: “It has an important position in the Kia range as the ideal vehicle for families. The upgrades will help to extend sales.”
NEW BUMPERS, LIGHTS SIGNATURE
The Korean automaker has just had its best-yet six-month trading period.
Among the exterior changes are revised front and rear bumpers and fog lights, the ‘tiger-nose’ grille – a change across the brand’s models – is said to have created “a more sculpted appearance”.
Also available is a new blue body colour and different 16, 17 and 18″ alloy wheel rims and the car has new rear combination lights and “a distinctive new light signature”.
The seven seats have new upholstery – cloth or leather – in black or beige as well as new gloss-black accents throughout the cabin and new carbon-effect facia trim..
The revised audio systems have a choice of 18 or 20cm touchscreen that includes satnav, Kia Connected Services and rear-view parking camera. The system can handle Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
A JBL Premium Sound system wth a sub-woofer, external amplifier and six speakers will be available in some markets.
TOUCHES FOR FUEL ECONOMY
The Carens’ 85kW engine now has stop/go fuel-saving and revised gear ratios and the new rims are shod with low rolling-resistance Michelin tyres.
