THE NEXT Peugeot 3008 SUV should be arriving in South Africa in early 2017 with the potential for 17 models and four diesel engines and a ‘revolutionary’ instrument panel – i-Cockpit – and cabin facia.

The SUV is, its maker says, “a well-equipped, sophisticated and stylish vehicle that combines efficiency, high-specification, high-levels of safety and technological equipment and unique features”.

The range (in the UK, at least, from where this feature originated) starts with a Level 2 specification, skipping Level 1 – so all units will have the new i-Cockpit which includes a compact steering-wheel, the latest configurable 31cm head-up digital instrument panel and a 20cm capacitive touchscreen.

The range starts (in the UK) at the equivalent of about R370 000 for the Active with its emergency braking, adaptive front crash bags and side, front and rear curtain bags, stability control, wakey-wakey for the driver, three IsoFix child-seat anchors, cruise control and speed-limit recognition.

There’s a wide choice of engines and of four trim levels – Active, Allure (expected best-seller), GT Line and top-of-the-range GT – that last launched in June 2016 already.
