MARKHAM, Ontario – The first road-going version of the all-new 2017 Ford GT has rolled off the line to start production of the halo car from Ford Performance for delivery around the world.
South Africa is not one of the chosen lucky nations.
Raj Nair, Ford executive vice-president for global product development and chief technical officer, was at the new, low-volume, assembly plant in Canada to drive the first unit off the assembly line.
He said afterwards: “We had two primary objectives for our Ford GT supercar when we kicked off 2016 – to excel at Le Mans and to start deliveries before year-end.
“We’ve achieved both.
“The all-new Ford GT is a showcase of our strength in innovation and our commitment to delivering more to our customers, especially related to lightt materials, aerodynamics and EcoBoost engine technology.”
The Ford GT was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2015.
