PRETORIA, South Africa – Mitsubishi Motors SA has issued a preventative recall on 7449 Pajeros in South Africa for a safety inspection and replacement of the driver’s-side crash bag.

Mitsubishi is one of several vehicle manufacturers affected by the potentially defective bag inflators manufactured by Takata, an OEM crash-bag supplier to Mitsubishi and other automotive brands.

MMSA is contacting owners to arrange for and to co-ordinate the timing of the service inspections during which the bags will be replaced at no cost.

Replacement parts first need to be distributed to dealers countrywide – when delivered, owners will be notified to take their SUV to the nearest Mitsubishi dealer.

Other Mitsubishi models, the big Triton bakkie and the sedan Mitsubishi Lancer, were recalled through 2014/15. Those recalls, a Mitsubishi spokesperson told The Corner, have been completed – though some owners failed to come forward despite thousands of email and registered letters.
