Two new top models for Merc-AMG convertible range

AFFALTERBACH, Germany – Mercedes-AMG is injecting fresh life into the AMG GT family’s sports-car portfolio with two Roadster models.

Entry-level is a 350kW AMG GT Roadster while the AMG GT C Roadster is capable of 410kW and is an all-new model in the range positioned between the AMG GT S and the AMG GT R

The new models also employ some sophisticated technical features from the GT R, among them active rear-wheel steering and an electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential.

“In combination with AMG Ride Control sport suspension,” AMG says, “the GT C Roadster guarantees dynamic performance at the very highest level.”


The top Roadster also takes its lead from the top AMG GT R with its proportions: wider rear wings create space for a wider track and wider rear wheels to handle even higher cornering speeds and outstanding traction.

The variable performance exhaust system, fitted as standard, ensures an authentic V8 sound from the AMG GT C Roadster.

Tobias Moers, chairman of Mercedes-AMG, explained: “With our two Roadsters we are strategically expanding the GT family by two exciting variants. With the AMG GT C Roadster we are also introducing a model to which we have transferred main performance-related components from our top sports car, the AMG GT R.

“The result: a highly dynamic driving experience in a very exclusive ambience, coupled with a pure roadster feeling.”

The two new cars increase the Mercedes-AMG GT family to six; their fabric soft-tops continue “the technical genes for which AMG is famous”.


These include a light and torsionally rigid aluminium body plus powerful and efficient V8 bi-turbo engines. The entry level Roadster is the Mercedes-AMG GT with an output of 350kW.

The GT C Roadster adds a completely new output rating of 410kW and so is the more powerful of the two new convertibles. In terms of output, it’s between the Mercedes-AMG GT S and the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

“The GT C Roadster not only delivers more output and torque,” AMG says, “but also impresses with numerous technical highlights from the AMG GT R for even more dynamic performance than the GT Roadster.”

The GT C Roadster can be distinguished from the GT Roadster by its “wide and muscular” tail and large wheels. Other technical measures include a wider rear track and rear-wheel steering.

The GT C Roadster also has a lithium-ion battery and comes complete with a highly exclusive specification with standard equipment and appointments that include a nappa leather interior, AMG Performance steering-wheel clad with nappa leather/Dinamica microfibre, and RACE driving mode.
