- 10 years on comes another Steed
- Bakkie ‘has an appetite for hard work’
- Steed 6 ‘a premium double-cab’
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Great Wall Motors – now trading as Haval Motors SA – arrived in South Africa 10 years ago and, the importer says, “comprehensively and crushingly redefined the term ‘value for money’.”
During those years it has sold well over 55 000 vehicles.
Today the GWM range stretches from the H5 SUV (just re-introduced) to the Steed 6, a premium double-cab that, the distributor says, “plays up there with the market leaders in this hotly contested segment – at an unbeatable price”.
GWM says its vehicles gained traction on the South African market through their appetite for hard work, be that construction site or farm, and asserts that these roots haven’t been forgotten with the four-strong Steed 5 single-cab bakkie range.
‘NOTION OF VALUE REDEFINED’
Now there’s a Steed 5 Single Cab 2.0 Workhorse 4×2 workhorse that, GWM says, “redefines the notion of value”. “This machine is the most affordable turbodiesel pick-up on our market – but its affordability doesn’t mean compromise”.
It has a 78kW/225Nm two-litre diesel engine and a load bed rated for more than a ton and measuring 2.28m by 1.52m by 0.46m. Other kit includes front and rear fog lights, aircon, power-assisted steering, and rake-adjustable column.
10th ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL
Comprehensive colour-coding and 16″ steel wheel rims round off the package while interior space is said to be generous – “no rubbing of shoulders”, GWM says. Fuel consumption is claimed to average 8.1 litres/100km.
Base price is R179 900 – but there’s a 10th anniversary special price R20 000 below that price.
The bakkie is sold with a three-year or 100 000km warranty with 15 000km service intervals. A service plan is an option.
The Steed 5 range starts at R149 900 for a single-cab 2.2 Mpi 4×2 Workhorse.
