JOHANNSBURG, Gauteng – Vovo has revealed its S90 Ambience concept, an ”industry-first sensory experience that synchronises video, sound and scent to define car luxury”, ahead of its public debut at the 2018 Beijing auto show.

The superluxcar is based on Volvo’s S90 Excellence three-seater executive sedan and focuses on one chauffeured passenger in the rear seat.

Perhaps the remaining one is for a bodyguard…? Just askin’…

The passenger can personalise the car’s atmosphere too choose, via a smartphone, from seven visual themes which synchronise with audio and cabin perfume.

Robin Page, head of design at Volvo Cars, told The Corner in a media release: “The Ambience concept redefines luxury by taking it beyond material choices to create a car that connects with your senses.

“Passengers can influence their own mood and well-being.”

‘UPLIFT YOUR ENERGY’

The choice of light displays on the headlining includes Northern Lights, Scandinavian Forest, Swan Lake, Archipelago, and Rain – for moods from relaxing to invigorating.

There’s also a Nocturnal theme for rest; Freedom ”boosts fresh and uplifting energy”.

”The chosen mood,” Volvo goes on, ”synchronises audio from a Bowers and Wilkins system that includes small tweeters in the passenger’s head restraint.

”Each theme is matched to one of four scents sprayed from the central console.”

While the S90 Ambience is (for now?) merely a concept, Volvo intends to produce an S90 Excellence for the megamoney Communists in China – where Volvo in 2017 sold more than 100 000 units for the first time and is the brand’s biggest market.

‘CREATED FOR CHINESE MARKET’

Martin Andersson, senior commercial product manager at Volvo Special Vehicles department, explained: “The Ambience concept was created primarily for China – it’s a contrast to sometimes hectic city environments.”
