Austrian GP: Max magic takes Honda to Spielberg win

SPIELBERG, Austria – Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Austrian Grand Prix, and ended F1 champion team Mercedes’s streak of success on Sunday by beating Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in a wheel-banging battle of the 21-year-olds.

The Hollander’s win – only confirmed three hours later after an investigation into an at first questioned overtake – was his second win on the mountain track and came after he seized the lead from Leclerc, who had led from pole, during which they made wheel contact through Turn 3.

Reuters reported that it was the first win for Honda since 2006 and suggested the race was ”a welcome antidote to the previous weekend’s dull French GP.
